ICCT kicks off

A report from day one of the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy

Friday May 27th 2005, Author: James Boyd, Location: Italy
Day one of the robin robins to determine competitors in the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy was sunny and quite hot with very light wind (4 to 7 knots), but steady with regard to direction (around 300°) and intensity. Strangely the usual thermal wind of 10-12 knots failed to materialise.

The Committee boat was on the sailing area by noon, but the first flight started more than three hours later at 3,35 p.m. It was possible to complete only four flights and
only on the Challergers side. The US teams were left ashore. Most of the Challengers were having their first experience of match racing but showed great progress between flights.

Results:

First flight
Morelli-Mughetti 1-0
Monti-Giannini 1-0

Second flight
Monti-Gori 1-0
Mughetti-Giannini 1-0

Third flight
Saragoni-Morelli 1-0
Giannini-Gori 1-0

Fourth flight
Saragoni-Giannini 1-0
Morelli-Monti 1-0
