Rob Andrews has joined the RYA
Racing team in the newly created post of Competition Manager.
In order to ensure the continued success enjoyed by British sailors over the last eight years and with the London 2012 games looming on the horizon, the RYA have pinpointed that there is a need to bring more world class events to our home waters. Hosting such events in the UK will ensure not only that more British sailors will have access to these high calibre events, but will also help raise the standard of our race officials at all levels, from mark layers to Race Officers.
As Competition Manager, Andrews will be responsible for bringing such sailing events to the UK. With a strong background in coaching and in competitive sailing, Andrews knows what makes and breaks a good sailing event and will be working to prove that we can host the best top notch sailing events in the sailing calendar.
Andrews commented: “Since 1984 I have been involved in coaching at Olympic events all over the world and feel that this is a great opportunity. I am really looking forward to having a hand in creating World Class events within the UK and to working with the many volunteers that we have in our sport.”
John Derbyshire, RYA Racing Manager and Performance Director explained that "This will be a crucial role in raising the standards of events within our sport. Rob's extensive knowledge of the sport, as coach and competitor, as well as his knowledge of Sponsorship and Marketing make him the ideal person for this role. Additionally, with his phenomenal experience at the elite end of the sport, he will be a great asset to the whole of the RYA World Class team."
