The 18 foot Skiff European Grand Prix Series took 36 teams to all corners of Europe in 2005. From Carnac, France in the spring to the European Champs in the turquoise Sardinian waters were the fleet were joined by the Australians and Americans. Then onto ‘Travemunde Woche’ on Germany’s Baltic coast and south again to the cliffs of Campione at Garda, Italy before finally to the UK’s Olympic venue of Weymouth.
British Skiffs dominated from the start in the strong winds at Carnac and capitalised further in Sardinia. A win a piece in Travemunde and Garda by the British team Barron and Smithers and the Danish team of GP Covers left all to play for going into the final leg at Weymouth. A fourth place in Weymouth proved sufficient for Barron & Smithers to clinch the title with the Danish second overall.
The British teams of Radii and Hermes scored well to secure third and fourth overall with an incomplete series. The Swiss B18 Exel took fifth recording third places at both Carnac and Garda, with the French Group Sefico sixth and Italian Velemareskiff seventh.
