Carveth and Murphy win in an International 14

The lightest of breezes greeted the hardy entrants for the 2004 Christmas Cracker Pursuit Race at Hayling. The lack of wind for the early starters, recovered sufficiently to give the later chasers a flying start and allowed the asymmetric dinghies to claim the top six positions.

The International 14s of Geoff Carveth and Adrian Murphy (below), and Charles Tavner and Ed Clay took first and second respectively, with the International Canoe of Paul Patrick in third. Fourth was the RS700 of Eddie Gatehouse and fifth the 49er of Mike and Clare Webber-Walton, with the B14 of Simon Hadley and Pete Nicholson sixth. A well varied fleet took part including Laser Radials, Solos, RS200s, 420, Fevas, Wayfarer, Finn, National 12 and RS Elite keelboats.
