Volvo Musto Oppie nationals off to a slow start

274 sailors are competing at the Volvo Musto Optimist National Championship being held at Largs Sailing Club, with a record number of entries ever for a Scottish regatta. Sailors, from as far a field as Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are racing.

Two races were scheduled today, but due to lack of wind the races were abandoned.

Mike Golding, recent winner of the singlehanded Transat and Defi Atlantique races on Ecover and one of the pre race favorite's to win this year's Vendee Globe, will be present on Friday 6th August, to watch the racing and present the prize giving ceremony.

Volvo and Musto have sponsored the Optimist class since 2000 and the sponsorship includes the National, Inland and End of Season Championships as well as the GB Optimist World and European Championship teams.
