Harris and Priest take the Bank holiday meeting

Wednesday May 5th 2004, Author: Emma Harris, Location: United Kingdom
Rock provided some excellent and varied sailing conditions and some top evening entertainment for 31 Larks over the May Bank Holiday. The first two day’s racing was held in a light F1-2, with a freshening F4 for the final two races on the Monday.

With gate starts scheduled for all races, Emma Harris and Becky Priest were given the pathfinder position three times by finishing third three times. They took full advantage of the paying right hand side in two of the races in which they led from start to finish, giving them a 3, 1, 3, 1, 3 and the meeting with a race to spare.

They didn’t have it all their own way, however, as Alan Krailing and Gemma Thompson sailed a very consistent series with four results in the top 3 including a win in R3, finishing in 2nd overall with 15 points.

The new pairing of Rob Larke and Sally Wakefield proved their speed, winning R1 and finishing a close 2nd in the breezier R5. Sarah Richards and Nigel Wakefield, were also very quick, especially in the breeze on the Monday, winning R5 and leading R6 before a capsize allowed Steve Dunn and Tegwyn Roberts through to win.

Some sterling efforts were seen from Andrew James and Rachel Rhodes, who sailed a great race on the Sunday to finish clear in 2nd, and Martin Gillam and Matt Griffiths, who, in the dying breeze of R4 sailed around the whole fleet downwind, picked up a puff and also shot into 2nd.

A huge thanks goes to Rock S&WC for their ever-efficient organisation and wonderfully warm hospitality.

Overall results:

1st 2311 Emma Harris and Becky Priest, 11pts
2nd 2464 Alan Krailing and Gemma Thompson, 15pts
3rd 2491 Rob Larke and Sally Wakefield, 22pts
4th 2288 Sarah Richards and Nigel Wakefield, 25pts
5th 2444 Steve Dunn and Tegwyn Roberts, 30pts
