Lark Masters

To be held in October

In response to a raft of enthusiastic requests, the Larks are organising a Lark Masters Championships for the latter part of this year. The inaugural event will be held over two days - 18/19 October at Stewartby Water SC, near Bedford.

This event comes as a natural step for the Larks in reflecting the changing face of the class to a "class for all the family - from child to granddad!" In recent years the committee have recognised that an increasing number of "older" sailors are using the Lark as a family racer, often with sons or daughters crewing. Many more families are appearing regularly for club racing and supporting the open meeting circuit - bringing with them lots of new faces, both young and old, and a revived enthusiasm in a formerly little-recognised age group. As one recent convertee commented "I feel young in a Graduate, old in a G.P. and positively childish in a Lark - it's fantastic!"

To encourage this trend, the class have recently added a Family Membership category to the class, making involvement for whole families that much more accessible.

Entry to the Lark Masters Championships will be open to any helm over the age of 35 (there is no minimum age limit on crews). As well as an overall trophy for the winner, there will be three category prizes: 35-45 Apprentice Masters; 45-55 Grand Masters; 55+ Great Grand Masters.

If you fancy giving the title a pop or just "picking on someone your own age" for the weekend and have your own boat, please put the date in your dairy and encourage your contemporaries to come along as well! If you don't have a Lark, but fancy giving the event a try, please get in touch with the Association who will do their best to find you a boat to sail.
