Laser SB 3 on test by madforsailing.com
Over at the Laser Centre stand (90A) their new sportsboat, finally named the SB 3, will take centre stage this year. Released quietly at the Southampton show earlier in the year and sailed in testing conditions by madforsailing shortly afterwards, the boat at the London show is the culmination of this seasons testing and will feature the latest gear and rig layout.
Laser will also have two sets of their Virtual Sailing Laser Simulator at the show and will be running the finals of the year long competition they have held around the country. Competitors are challenged around a trapezoid course in a set of standard conditions, pre set into the operating computer. At the end of each one lap race a competitor is awarded a time for their race
From the qualifying rounds the top sailors have been invited to the finals at the London Boat Show 2002, where head to head racing will take place to decide the winners of the top prizes.
Comet Dinghies (85A) have added a new Phil Morrison fourteen foot design to their range, the Comet Race. This asymmetric two hander uses a swivelling pole, RS400 style, to improve downwind gybe angles. Comet will also have their new Zero all-rounder and the Trio cruiser racer at the show.
LDC Racing Sailboats (83B) will be showing their full range of RS racing dinghies and will include the newly launched Vario dinghy and the mini sportsboat the K6 which Peter Bentley recently tested for madforsailing.
Next year the RS racing circuit will feature a two-tier structure with Gull sponsoring the five event Grand Slam circuit for all the RS classes and Fatface sponsoring the RS class events at smaller venues.
