I have read the FAQ’s and still need some help?

Please contact subscriptions@thedailysail.com detailing the technical problems you are having, include as much detail as possible. We are very keen to eliminate all technical issues that readers may have and your specific experiences are important to us.

My computer has problems with the new site format.

We have tried to ensure that the new site format is as compatible as possible with the wide range of computer systems and browsers that our readers use. If you have problems with any specific part of the site then please let us know by emailing us at siteissues@thedailysail.com. If you could tell us the operating system and browser versions you are using it would be useful.
While the new site format is bedding down you may use the old format by clicking here. This sets a cookie on your computer so cookies must be enabled for thedailysail.com.
If you are using the old site format and wish to use the new format again click here to delete the cookie set by the link above.
If you are having problems with the expanding menus then click on the Simple Menu link at the bottom of the left hand column.

I want to re-subscribe?

Please use the links in the reminder emails, or on the 'Barrier Pages' as they appear on the site. Alternatively you can use this link to go to the right area. By re-subscribing you are updating your existing record, plus having the opportunity to take up some special offers. This will also be the quickest way for you to continue with your subscription

Where do I log in?

When you click on an article you will be prompted to log into the site. You also have an option on this page to save these details, so you don’t have to log in again, by clicking ‘Remember me’.

I don’t get the Log In page?

This is almost certainly due to the Internet Security you have running on your machine. You will need to have your machine set to accept 'cookies' from www.thedailysail.com.

It may be due to a Firewall you have installed, or may be the settings you have chosen on your Internet browser. In all cases, you should add www.thedailysail.com to your Trusted Sites list in these applications.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools on the top menu bar, select Internet Options, select Privacy tab, select Web Sites/Edit, then add www.thedailysail.com and click 'Allow'. Then click OK and try the site again.

Another option you have is to switch this security off, log into the site and click ‘Remember Me’ on the Log In page, and then switch your security back on. You should then be able to access the site without needing to go through the Log In page.

Remember that when you upgrade software on your machine, which affects your Internet Security, you may need to go through this process again.

I log in but nothing happens?

If you have entered in your log in details and the page just turns blank - this will be caused by the same problems detailed above.

I have Norton Personal Firewall?

We are aware that readers who use this application sometimes have difficulty viewing the site. We are working on a fix for this. This is due to Pop-Up advert blocker in the program, which affects usability of TheDailySail.com, however we do not carry Pop-Up advertising. The fix is:

Either: disable Ad-Blocker completely – use the Status and Settings panel and highlight Ad Blocking, and Turn Off.

Or: highlight Ad Blocking and click on Configure. Click on the Advanced button and add www.thedailysail.com to the list. Select the website address and in the User Settings panel uncheck all the ‘Use Personal Firewall settings’ and ensure that all settings are permit. Click ok and ok again. Then try the site

I’ve forgotten my Username and/or my Password?

Please use the automated password reminder function: remindme
Please note that this will send the reminder to the email address we have on file, when you subscribed to the site. If this is no longer valid you will need to contact us directly at subscriptions@thedailysail.com, we will then send your details manually.

I want to clear my Login Details which I have saved?
If you have clicked the 'Remember Me' function, you may at some stage wish to clear these details. Please use this link to clear your DailySail Login cookies.

Can I use my log in on other machines?

Yes, you have purchased a personal subscription to the site. You will be able to access the site from any machine. If you use the ‘Remember Me’ function, you Log In will only be saved on that particular machine.

I keep getting the login page?

If your browser is set up correctly you should only be asked to log in to the site once per visit. If you are constantly being asked to login then you are probably not allowing us to store 'session cookies' on your computer. We use session cookies to tell the server that you are logged on and are allowed to view the site. If your browser doesn't accept the cookie you will be forced to log in each time you view a secured page. Cookie settings are browser dependent but we have detailed some of the more popular browsers here.

I keep getting the Access Denied Page?

There are a number of reasons why you may be getting the access denied page. The first is that someone else is using your username and password to access the site from a different computer. In which case we suggest that you change your password here.

Another reason is that you either don't accept cookies from our site or run a privacy tool which removes cookies automatically. To make sure you can access the site reliably we suggest that you allow us to store cookies on your computer. We have detailed how to do this for several popular browsers & firewall tools here. If you are unable to store this cookie then email us at subscriptions@thedailysail.com and we will try to sort out alternative arrangements.

If you get the Access Denied page showing the following text
Notice: It appears that you did not complete the login process
then the problem is almost certainly due to firewall/internet privacy software. Go here to see if we have listed your software and have settings that can help.

What cookies do TheDailySail.com store on my computer?

If allowed, we hold very little information permanently in a cookie on your computer. We hold a computer serial number to help identify you at log on and if you have selected the "Remember me" option to log on automatically we hold your user name and encrypted password. While browsing the site you we use a session cookie to prevent you from having to log on each time you view a protected page.
