Banque Populaire demolishes Groupama's record

Pascal Bidégorry and his 11 crew on the maxi-trimaran Banque Populaire V have demolished the TransMed record from Marseille to Carthage, Tunisia taking 2 hours 47 minutes and 47 seconds off Groupama 3's previous record. The new record time now stands at 14 hours 20 minutes and 34 seconds, subject to ratification by the WSSRC.

The blue 40m trimaran set sail from the Friuli lighthouse off Marseille at 03:56:56 GMT this morning and crossed the finish line off Carthage at 18:17:30 GMT at an average speed of 33.24 knots over the 477 mile course. The top speed during this record was 43.1 knots.
